Hi, just joined this group but have been a long time CSI fan.. there's
something that's been bugging me for a while now, and i wonder if
someone can clear it up.. (if in fact it had been cleared in the show).
I tried to google "shifts" in googlegroups under alt.tv.csi and saw
some topics (dating back 2003, 2004) but no clear answer was evident..

By my understanding, CSI teams are on 24 hours? with Day and Night
shifts (12 hours each?) And CSI Vegas is on the Night Shift. CSI Miami
and NY are on the Day shift? Is this right? And correspondingly, the
Coroners mirror their shifts? (bec i find it strange that EVERY crime
has to be seen by just ONE coroner (or his assitant.. which only CSI
vegas seems to have)

Which time of day do you think has more crime in it? Perhaps Vegas
being Vegas, its Nighttime, and NY/Miami Daytime?

Are the teams we are watching the Best Team in their cities? Have we
NEVER seen their counterparts at work (and are they the inferior
teams)? There have been several times when a sensational crime takes
place, and a press conference is held, and its always Grissom, Mack and
Horatio in the spotlight... dont the other teams ever get sensational
crimes to solve? I realize the short answer would be "they do,
off-camera". But i just find myself fascinated by the thought that
behind the scenes, beyond the characters and crimes we see, there is a
group of people working who is as diligent and as talented as the group
we're used to seeing every week, and would like to see a story or even
some throwaway lines involving them. (Think about the episode "the
other 48 days" in LOST). If there is ever a filler episode needed
(actors schedule conflicted, etc) it would be nice to feature these
"unknowns". It would be better than say, that epidode with Brass and
his hooker daughter in LA with Warrick "conveniently" in LA to help him
along with CSI:LA (btw, that series never took off the ground huh? :-)
)

Actually CSI Vegas is the closest that tried to show this. It showed
Ecklie was the day supervisor with his assistant as Sofia. So thats
just two of them, were are the rest?? And when Ecklie split the Night
team, and Catherine became the day supervisor.. it only showed Warrick
and Nick as her members. Where were the other original day people? And
Grissom lost 3 people and gained only 1 (Sofia?)

Also, Ecklie has been depicted as incompetent and only became
supervisor bec of politicking.. but he couldnt have been day supervisor
without being at least *somewhat* good at his forensics job.

Yeah, yeah i know i should just get over it and enjoy the show as is..
:-) but it would be nice to have answers to this for a more
"realistic" take.

They're saving those stories for the sequels, when the current series
run out of gas. And by gas, I mean money. All new actors, at all new
and reduced salaries.

CSI vegas has three shifts day, swing, and night. Catherine was in
charge of the swing shift before grissom got Eckley to bring the squad
back together. We really don't know much about the current members in
"Day" and "Swing" shifts. Ecklie has good people working for him. It's
that old Civil Service joke. Promote the inept so they are someone
elses problem.

Thanks for clearing it up. Reiterating my wish to know more about
these "others". I wish they'd incorporate them once in a while (even
non-speaking roles or brief cameos) for believability's sake. For
example, during the season finale where Nick was abducted, the whole
team (Swing and Night) pitched in. The Day team should have been there
as well.. i mean we're talking about saving one of their own here.
Forget about overtime pay or fatigue (hey, if Jack Bauer and the CTU
guys can work for 24 hours straight.... ;-) )
